Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is both the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in the United American. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
